The phrase “absolutely not” comes at a cost that nations must pay if they want to keep their heads held high, said Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Tuesday, following the cancellation of England and New Zealand cricket tours to Pakistan.
Prime Minister Imran Khan stated unequivocally in June that Pakistan will “absolutely not” provide military bases to the US for operations in Afghanistan following the latter’s troop withdrawal — months before the Taliban took over the country.
In a press conference, the information minister stated that he and Minister of Interior Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed would brief the media on recent events. “You’ll see how fake news and hybrid warfare are intertwined.”
According to Chaudhry, his briefing with Rasheed will highlight the issue with charts and other relevant data.
“PTV alone has suffered losses of Rs220 million, and we are now consulting with our lawyers on how to take [New Zealand] to court,” he said.
“If you want to keep your head held high, you must pay the price, and I believe the Pakistani nation is prepared to face this,” the information minister said.
His comments come a day after the England Cricket Board (ECB) announced that its team’s tour of Pakistan would be cancelled due to New Zealand’s last-minute decision to pull out due to a “security alert.”
In a scathing response to the ECB’s cancellation of the tour, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ramiz Raja expressed his displeasure with England.
“…it was to be expected as the Western bloc banded together in an attempt to back each other up. The withdrawal of England is unjustified; Pakistan cricket will triumph “He stated this in a video statement.
Raja had also vowed to seek full compensation from New Zealand Cricket (NZC) for the financial losses incurred by the PCB as a result of the withdrawal.
