Dera Ghazi Khan: Prime Minister Imran Khan emphasised the significance of making Pakistan self-sufficient in food crops on Thursday, saying it was vital to feed the country’s massive population.

The prime minister was speaking at a Kissan Card ceremony in Dera Ghazi Khan, when he claimed Pakistan’s already enormous population was rapidly expanding.

Speaking about farmers’ concerns in Pakistan, the prime minister stated that they were generating money for the first time under the tenure of the current administration.

“We [the PTI-led government] put pressure on the sugar mafia to provide payments to farmers that they had previously withheld,” he explained.

Despite cultivating a large quantity of food crops, he regretted the fact that Pakistan had to buy wheat from overseas.

“When food crop prices climbed throughout the world, and we were also importing them from other nations, inflation in Pakistan skyrocketed,” he explained. “Today, given where we are in terms of population, we must focus on elementary education and fundamental health because these two prevent a population from increasing astronomically,” he continued.

PM Imran Khan stated that his administration is currently working to make Pakistan self-sufficient in food crops and to maximise water storage.

“We will do this so that whenever food costs rise throughout the world, Pakistanis here would be able to eat daal,” he added.
