SHARJAH (AFP) – Australia qualified to the Twenty20 World Cup semi-finals after South Africa failed to hold England to less than 131 runs in their Super 12 match on Saturday.
South Africa recorded a competitive 189 for two in Sharjah, led by Rassie van der Dussen’s unbeaten 94, but they needed a large win to improve their run-rate over Australia.
The Australians defeated the West Indies by eight wickets in the opening match of the day, tying them on points with England, who also made the last four after moving through 87 runs in their chase and topping the group after clearing 109.
Pakistan has already advanced to the semi-finals of the other group.
