ABU DHABI: Kane Williamson and Devon Conway helped New Zealand beat Afghanistan by eight wickets to reach the T20 World Cup semi-finals.
Williamson and Conway combined for 68 runs to lead New Zealand to a 125-run victory.
Williamson went on to bat for another 40 runs, while Conway finished with 36 runs. Williamson smashed three boundaries, followed by Conway, who smashed four.
Martin Guptill scored 28 runs before being dismissed by Rashid Khan, who now has 400 T20 wickets. Daryl Mitchell had a total of 17 points, including three fours.
For Afghanistan, Rashid and Mujeeb-ur-Rehman both took a wicket.
Earlier in the day, New Zealand bowlers held Afghanistan to a score of 124-8 in a game that they needed to win.
Afghanistan’s batsmen crumbled after opting to bat first in a simulated quarter-final. The top of the order was unable to score any runs.
Najibullah Zadran scored 73 runs off 48 balls for Afghanistan, including six boundaries and three maximums. Gulbadin Naib scored 15 points, while Mohammad Nabi scored 14.
Trent Boult grabbed three wickets for New Zealand, Tim Southee took two, while Adam Milne, James Neesham, and Ish Sodhi each took one wicket.
