The vice-chairman of the Punjab Overseas Pakistanis Commission says 63% of concerns were resolved.

LONDON: Syed Tariq Mahmood-ul-Hassan, vice-chairman of the Punjab Overseas Pakistanis Commission (POPC), claims that 63 percent of complaints lodged by expats have been handled in the last three years, whereas previous governments only cleared 37 percent.

The vice-chairman stated during a news conference at the Pakistan High Commission in London that Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar has demolished the mafia that used to possess assets of foreign Pakistanis, mostly in Punjab.

According to Mahmood-ul-Hassan, the Punjab chief minister has worked hard over the last three years to deal with the mafia, which has behaved with impunity and made a career out of robbing the possessions of foreign Pakistanis.

He claimed that thousands of backlogged cases have been resolved to the satisfaction of complainants.

According to Mahmood-ul-Hassan, Prime Minister Imran Khan and Buzdar have a “zero tolerance attitude” regarding issues affecting Pakistanis living abroad.

He stated that PM Khan had “done more for abroad Pakistanis than any other leader of Pakistan,” with the “greatest proof” being that he spearheaded the effort to grant voting rights to foreign Pakistanis.

According to the POPC vice-chairman, he was selected two months ago to assist international Pakistanis, reach out to them globally, and listen to their issues.

He said that before to PM Imran Khan’s tenure, foreign Pakistanis were “regarded as second-class citizens,” but that since taking office, he has altered the dynamics and granted overseas Pakistanis “VIP status.”

“Usman Buzdar has done a lot of good for Punjabis and Pakistanis living abroad, but he’s been chastised because it’s become fashionable to criticise him. I am travelling the UK at the request of the Punjab chief minister to inform abroad Pakistanis about the Punjab government’s attempts to settle their difficulties and to deliver a message of goodwill from Usman Buzdar “He stated.

He stated that a convention of abroad Pakistanis from 80 countries will be held shortly, where top achievers will be recognised for their achievements.

According to the POPC vice-chairman, after three years of PTI leadership, the Overseas Pakistani Commission is now operating around the clock for all time zones throughout the world.

He stated that “this administration has addressed 63 percent of all complaints in three years, but the previous administration only resolved 37 percent while working just 9 to 5”

He stated that the abroad community may lodge their grievances online and over the phone, and that a 24-hour helpline has been established in the OPC office.

Syed Tariq Mahmood-ul-Hassan was named vice-chairman of the Punjab Overseas Pakistanis Commission (POPC) by Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar two months ago.

The Overseas Pakistanis Commission is a separate entity within the Punjab Services and General Administration Department.

The commission is led by the Punjab chief minister, who delegated authority to the vice-chairman to operate the commission through the commissioner and several committees.
