ISLAMABAD – Fawad Chaudhry, the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, said on Tuesday that Pakistan is the cheapest country in South Asia, with only the price of tea being greater than the rest of the country’s goods.
He told a news conference following a federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad on Tuesday that the Ministry of Science and Technology is ready to give electronic voting devices to Pakistan’s Election Commission (ECP).
He stated that all political parties should play a positive role in the computerised voting problem.
The minister stated that the Pakistani Election Commission should launch tenders for Electronic Voting Machines.
In comparison to other nations in the area, he noted, Pakistani costs for all necessary food products are reasonable, with the exception of tea.
“Deregulation of the sugar industry is one of the primary ideas in the comprehensive study presented on Tuesday. It also proposes that the government’s involvement in price fixing and subsidy [on the sweetener] be ended, and that only the crushing season be enforced by the government,” he stated.
Pakistan’s imported inflation, according to the minister, is “extremely bad.”
According to Fawad, when compared to other regional countries, Pakistan is the cheapest.
Except for tea, he noted, all necessary items were cheaper in Pakistan than in India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.
He said that introducing health and ration card schemes will assist to reduce inflation by allowing individuals to spend the money saved on other products.
