ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – The 7th Census was approved by the Council of Common Interests, which was chaired by Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan.
The 49th meeting of the Council of Common Interests was presided over by PM. Aside from the Chief Ministers, Federal Ministers, and the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, all Provincial Chief Secretaries, the Chairman of NADRA, the Chief Commissioner of Islam, and other high officials were present.
On the occasion, the Prime Minister stated that the number of council meetings might be raised based on the needs of the provinces.
The three-point agenda was considered at the Council of Common Interests meeting. According to the statement, a basic census would be undertaken prior to the housing and population census.
The census operations will be monitored by the committee. The Council of Common Interests has agreed to carry out the seventh census using digital technologies, namely a GIS monitoring system.
The annual report of the Council of Common Interests for the fiscal year 2020-21 was adopted during the meeting. During the fiscal year 2020-21, a total of 6 meetings were conducted, with 21 agenda items being reviewed. The council will also improve communication between the federal and provincial administrations.
Additional water requirements for Karachi were also reviewed, and it was resolved at the political and technical levels to form a committee to reconcile the provinces’ positions and water-related concerns, according to the committee.
The government, according to the premier, wants to have credible census data, which will be utilised to develop programmes and plans for the welfare of residents.
Furthermore, he stated that the creation of the Permanent Secretariat symbolises the attitude of mutual collaboration between the Federal and Provincial Governments. The federal government is dedicated to solve national challenges in collaboration with all federal agencies and partners.
