Tesla welcomed thousands of electric car fans to Texas on Thursday for a “cyber rodeo” to celebrate the opening of a production plant the size of 100 soccer fields.
As guests roamed the huge factory complex decked out in a distinctive nightclub appearance, photos and videos filled Twitter.
While industrial machinery and Tesla models were displayed like museum artwork, visitors interacted under red and blue lights. Cars were parked outside in the shape of the Texas flag.
Bulldozers were still working near the so-called “gigafactory,” which was built with more steel than New York City’s famed Empire State Building, according to signage.
Tesla’s charismatic but controversial inventor and CEO Elon Musk triumphantly addressed a roaring throng inside the factory, “It’s the equal of three Pentagons.”
