LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – The superhero sequel, starring Benedict Cumberbatch once more, debuted last weekend to a year-high US$187 million. It has already generated US$292 million in local revenue and an additional US$396 million in international revenue for a total of US$688 million.
Universal’s animated action-comedy The Bad Guys came in second place for the Friday-through-Sunday weekend. The DreamWorks Animation project grossed $6.9 million, featuring a voice cast headlined by Sam Rockwell, Awkwafina, and Anthony Ramos.
For the second weekend in a row, Paramount’s family-friendly Sonic the Hedgehog 2 came in third with US$4.6 million.
