The rupee’s value versus the dollar has increased by Rs 148.25 in the last 23 years.
The rupee has been depreciating against the US currency for several years now. When Pervez Musharraf took power on October 12, 1999, the dollar was trading at Rs 51.75. After a 15% drop in value, or Rs 9.43, it was trading at Rs 61.18.
The dollar stood at Rs 62.22 during the PPP government’s time after Pervez Musharraf, then it increased to Rs 98.22 until March 24, 2013. The currency devalued by 37 percent, or Rs 36, during the PPP period.
