KARACHI – On Thursday, the son of PTI senator Azam Swati filed a plea in the Sindh High Court (SHC) disputing proceedings brought against his father for making controversial comments about state institutions.

Barrister Usman Swati also asked the court to ban the Sindh police from filing further complaints against the PTI veteran, who is being detained by the Balochistan police.

In a media interview, Mr Usman stated that he had also requested that the SHC summon the whole record of cases brought by the police against his father.

According to PTI leader Firdous Shamim Naqvi, what happened to Azam Swati was terrible. “This is the call of conscience that has brought us here [SHC] today to take up the topic,”

he said, alluding to supposed leaked intimate tapes of

Swati, Azam. He said that the filing of 40 complaints against the PTI senator was part of a coordinated operation against him.
The Balochistan High Court (BHC) had ordered police not to file any more charges against Azam Swati the day before.

A panel comprised of Justice Kamran Khan Mulakhail and Justice Amir Rana heard the PTI leader’s son, Usman Swati, who sought an injunction barring police from filing more charges against his father.

On Sunday, a district court in Quetta remanded the senator in police custody for five days, a week after the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested him in Islamabad in connection with controversial tweets directed at the military.

The senator was transferred to Quetta on a special jet on Friday amid strict security after the judicial magistrate of Islamabad turned him over to Balochistan police.
