West Indies are defeated by Australia in the second test, Lyon roars.

AUSTRALIA : On day three of the day-night second Test in Adelaide, the West Indies were dismissed during the dinner break after two dreadful run outs and three wickets for Nathan Lyon put Australia well in control.

As a result of centuries from Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne, the hosts declared at 511-74, leaving the visitors all out for 214 and behind by 297 runs.

With Lyon capturing 3-57, Marquino Mindley was undefeated through 11.

With 37 overs under lights on Friday, Australia had 37 overs to make progress, and the bowlers delivered by dismissing Kraigg Brathwaite (19), Shamarh Brooks (8), Jermaine Blackwood (3), and Devon Thomas (19).

With Tagenarine Chanderpaul as the lone holdout, that left the Caribbean team reeling at 102-4 overnight.

In a disastrous start, he was run out in the first over without adding to his score following a mix-up with Anderson Phillip when he started play at 47 on a sweltering day.

In response to Chanderpaul’s prodding, Mitchell Starc tossed the ball back and launched a hard stroke after gathering the ball on his follow through.

Starc was on fire and sent Jason Holder packing for a duck in his subsequent over. The short-handed batter edged to Alex Carey, the wicketkeeper, who made a superb diving catch.

However, Phillip and Joshua Da Silva fought back, snatching up loose balls to score goals, including a six from Lyon.

The veteran spinner, who on Friday passed Shane Warne’s previous record of 56 wickets at Adelaide Oval, ultimately broke their 60-run partnership.

Following Australia’s successful appeal of the umpire’s original not out ruling, he trapped Da Silva leg before wicket for 23. Phillip was then run out for 43 following another clumsy mix-up, this time involving Roston Chase.

Before Starc successfully got rid of the obstinate Chase for 34, Lyon defeated Alzarri Joseph with a lbw.
