KARACHI: Suhail Shaheen, a Tehreek-e-Taliban Afghanistan spokesman, said Pakistan is welcome to assist the Taliban in reaching a negotiated settlement in Afghanistan, but that Pakistan “cannot dictate to us or force its ideas on us.”
Shaheen made the comments during a late-night interview with Local TV .
When asked about the Afghan Taliban’s connections with Pakistan, especially in light of allegations that the Taliban refuse to listen to Pakistan, the spokesperson said: “We’d want to have brotherly relationships. They are our neighbours, a Muslim country, with whom we share historical, religious, and cultural values.”

“They may assist us in the peace process, but they cannot force their beliefs on us. And this is in violation of international law “Added he.

Shaheen claimed that having an emirate is “a legitimate entitlement of the people of Afghanistan,” in response to the Taliban’s demand for an Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

“We make no mention of other governments. “They should not force their viewpoint,” he stated, adding, “This is also contrary to international standards.”

“I do not know of the TTP emir swearing loyalty [to our commander] but I will tell you the policies of the Islamic Emirate,” Shaheen stated after the TTP emir vowed fealty to Afghan Taliban chief Mullah Haibatullah Akhunzada.

“We will not allow any individual or group to utilise Afghan land in any way. I’ve stated this in several interviews, and I believe our stance is clear and widely understood.”
