ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) will meet today to discuss the jurisdictional problem of pursuing criminal charges against National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairperson Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal.
The SJC will investigate the allegations submitted by Barrister Zafrullah Khan and others in 2019, according to a source.
According to the newspaper, the SJC will consider whether it has jurisdiction over the accusations levelled against the current NAB chairman.
A notification has been given to Attorney General Khalid Javed in this regard, according to the report, to help the Council in determining whether or not the misconduct allegation against the NAB chairperson may be pursued.
The SJC is chaired by Pakistan’s chief justice, and two senior Supreme Court judges and two senior chief justices of high courts are members, according to Article 209 of the Constitution.
The Council is chaired by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed, and its members include Supreme Court justices Umer Ata Bandial and Mushir Alam, as well as Sindh High Court Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M Shaikh and Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Athar Minallah.
