QUETTA: Starting in August, Balochistan will make it illegal to enter important government offices without being vaccinated, according to a government spokeswoman.

In a press conference today, provincial government spokesperson Liaquat Shahwani warned that access into workplaces without vaccination will be prohibited from August 1st.

The increase in COVID-19 cases in the fourth wave of the pandemic has put hospitals under strain. “People from Balochistan used to travel to Karachi, and the rising number of cases in the port city would have an impact on Balochistan,” a spokesman added.

He predicted that in Balochistan, the Covid positive rate may reach 11%.
“The Delta strain of coronavirus is mostly proliferating in Makran, and 40 percent of recorded cases in Gwadar are Delta variant,” Shahwani added.
“In the province, many are skipping vaccinations. Because the province lacks private institutions to share the caseload, the government hospitals would be overburdened if the cases increased.

“The health-care system will implode under the weight of escalating cases,” he said.

After a rise in cases, the administration has enforced a lockdown in Gwadar and Kech districts, he added. If the number of coronavirus cases rises, Quetta will be placed under lockdown.
