Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah presided over a meeting of the Sindh Education Department’s steering committee today in Karachi.
The steering committee meeting was called to make a final decision on whether or not schools in the province should reopen on August 20.
Officials from the health department updated the attendees on the COVID-19 situation in the province, recommending that schools be reopened with 50% attendance.
Representatives of the parents association were also invited to the conference for the first time, according to individuals familiar with the situation.
Participants agreed that educational institutions that have been fully vaccinated should be permitted to resume. The majority of the participants agreed that schools should reopen with COVID-19 SOPs in place.
The conference was attended by Parliamentary Secretary for Health Qasim Soomro, as well as parents and school union members.
