SLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Friday that a stable Afghanistan will benefit Pakistan by opening up opportunities for commerce and economic initiatives.
In an interview with Newsweek, the premier stated, “Following the exit of the United States, Afghanistan confronts a tough transition from the last 20 years of a US-NATO sponsored political system.” For the first time in 40 years, the Taliban look to have taken control of the whole country.
We must collaborate with Kabul authorities to destroy prohibited parties operating in Afghanistan, notably the TTP [the country’s largest armed opposition group], which has carried out thousands of assaults against Pakistan, he added.
“If China gives economic help to Afghanistan, it is inevitable that the Afghans will embrace it,” stated Prime Minister Imran. The Taliban have welcomed the idea of joining the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and developing strong ties with China.”
He went on to add that the United States can play a significant and constructive role in Afghanistan by giving humanitarian aid, contributing to Afghanistan’s recovery and rebuilding, and assisting in limiting terrorism from Afghanistan.
