KARACHI — The Supreme Court (SC) held a hearing on a case involving the demolition of the Nasla Tower in Karachi on Wednesday.
During the hearings, the court voiced its displeasure with the Karachi commissioner’s report and ordered the tower to be demolished immediately and a report to be provided by the afternoon.
Gulzar Ahmed, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), has also directed that a report on Tejori Heights be submitted.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court (SC) has ordered the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to close its club and utilise the space as a mess.
The chief judge further chastised the CAA director general, saying, “You may also construct a mess and even your dwellings on the runway.”
On October 25, 2021, the Supreme Court ruled that Nasla Tower in Karachi be demolished within a week.
During the hearing at the Karachi registry, the Supreme Court ruled that the procedure be carried out using cutting-edge technology and that the owner of Nasla Tower bear all costs. The owner’s properties should be seized if he refuses to pay the fees, the court stated.
The Supreme Court also denied review petitions submitted by owners and allottees in the Nasla Tower case, directing the commissioner to act on the June 16 ruling and informing them that a written decision will be delivered soon.
The Supreme Court had said that the structure should be dismantled, as evidenced by the fact that Nasla Tower was erected on occupied territory.
The Supreme Court stated that it had studied all of the relevant institutions’ documentation and instructed the commissioner to take immediate control of the Nasla Tower building; no concessions may be made on unlawful projects.
