ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) apprehended Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani outside the Supreme Court building on Friday, according to ANews.
Earlier in the day, the speaker of the Sindh parliament petitioned the Supreme Court for bail in the issue of assets beyond means.
The arrest was made by the NAB Rawalpindi team when Agha Siraj Durrani exited the Supreme Court premises after waiting for four hours for a copy of the written ruling.
Durrani appeared at the Supreme Court after eluding the anti-corruption monitor for a month and a half. He had gone into hiding after his bail was withdrawn by the Sindh High Court (SHC).
However, the Supreme Court ordered Durrani to surrender to the NAB before hearing his bail application.
“We have to proceed with the case in accordance with the law,” Justice Bandial stated.
The Sindh High Court (SHC) denied temporary bail to provincial assembly speaker Agha Siraj Durrani in the assets case filed by the corruption watchdog on October 14.
The SHC, on the other hand, granted bail to Mr Durrani’s wife, three children, a son, and two others in the same case. Following that, a NAB team stormed Durrani’s home to arrest him but had to return empty-handed because he was not present. Since then, there has been no indication of his location.
