COLOMBO: Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa expressed outrage at the lynching of a Sri Lankan national in Sialkot on Saturday, but voiced confidence in Prime Minister Imran Khan’s determination to prosecute all those responsible.
PM Mahinda Rajapaksa reacted to Twitter to denounce the tragic Friday event in which a mob tortured and killed Priyantha Diyawadana, an expat manufacturing manager working in Sialkot, over blasphemy claims.
“It is heartbreaking to see the savage and tragic attack on Priyantha Diyawadana by extremist crowds in Pakistan.” “My heart goes out to his wife and family,” he tweeted.

He stated that Sri Lanka and its people are sure that Prime Minister Imran Khan would follow through on his promise to bring all those implicated to justice.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi stated that he is in communication with his Sri Lankan colleague and has guaranteed him that the victim’s family would be compensated.
“Sri Lanka has praised Pakistan’s response to the event,” Qureshi said, adding that the family has been reached and that “we would absolutely satisfy them.”
