Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi met with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg at NATO headquarters in Brussels on Tuesday, raising concerns about the rapidly deteriorating situation in Afghanistan and urging the international community to provide humanitarian and economic aid to the country.
The meeting between the two officials took place at NATO’s Brussels headquarters.
During the meeting, FM Qureshi stated that Pakistan wanted to resolve all remaining issues, including the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, via discussion.
The two talked about bilateral cooperation, the evolving situation in Afghanistan, and other topics of mutual interest, such as the regional situation.
Referring to his June 2019 meeting with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, the foreign minister stated that high-level political and military contacts had helped improve bilateral collaboration on issues of mutual concern.
Foreign Minister Qureshi voiced worry over the rapidly expanding humanitarian catastrophe in Afghanistan, underlining Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to peace and stability in the neighbouring nation.
He stated that the international community must make significant efforts to offer humanitarian and economic aid to the Afghan people.
FM Qureshi stated that international collaboration with the Taliban was critical in preventing people from fleeing Afghanistan and preventing the country from becoming a safe haven for terrorists and a drugs hub once more.
On December 19, Pakistan will host an exceptional meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in order to draw international attention to the looming humanitarian disaster in Afghanistan, he added.
Jen Stoltenberg, NATO’s Secretary-General, praised Pakistan’s support for the alliance during its two-decade engagement in Afghanistan.
