ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – The 17th emergency session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers will be convened today (Sunday) to focus on Afghanistan’s deteriorating humanitarian situation.
The meeting will begin with a remark by Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, who will chair the event.
The OIC summit’s chair, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Bin Farhan Al-Saud, would then address the delegates.
This will be followed by a statement from Hissein Brahim Taha, Secretary-General of the OIC, remarks on behalf of OIC Regional Groups (Asia, Africa, and Arab), and a statement from Dr Muhammad Al-Jasser, President of the Islamic Development Bank.
Participants would include special invitees from the UN, International Financial Institutions, and certain non-member governments such as the United States, United Kingdom, France, China, Russia, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the EU, in addition to Foreign Ministers from OIC Member States and Observers.
The discussion is being held against the background of Afghanistan’s deteriorating humanitarian crisis.
The event would give a chance to examine realistic and meaningful solutions to alleviate Afghanistan’s humanitarian needs.
The OIC was founded by Pakistan and Afghanistan. Pakistan and the OIC have always supported the Afghan people throughout the years.
The keynote presentation will be delivered by Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Delegates have arrived in Islamabad for the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers’ special session.
Malaysia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Germany, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Oman all arrived in Islamabad early Saturday.
