ISLAMABAD – The appointment of Justice Ayesha Malik as a Supreme Court judge was authorised by the Parliamentary Committee (PC) (SC).
The Parliamentary Committee on Judicial Appointments met under the supervision of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Farooq H. Naek, and endorsed the nomination of Justice Ayesha Malik to the Supreme Court.
Farooq H. Naek claimed that the name of Justice Ayesha Malik was unanimously approved. We are not doing away with the seniority system. If a woman is being appointed for the first time, her name has been authorised in the national interest, and Justice Ayesha Malik’s name has been approved.
Earlier on January 6, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Gulzar Ahmad Khan proposed the nomination of Justice Ayesha A. Malik of the Lahore High Court (LHC) as a Supreme Court of Pakistan judge.
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Gulzar Ahmad presided over a meeting of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP). The CJP’s suggestion to nominate Justice Ayesha A. Malik as a Supreme Court judge was sent to the legislative committee during the meeting.
Justice Ayesha A. Malik was born in 1966 and spent her childhood in Paris, New York, and Karachi.
She completed her B.Com in Karachi and her LLB in Lahore. Malik earned her LLM from Harvard Law School in the United States. On March 27, 2012, the 55-year-old jurist was sworn in as a judge of the Lahore High Court (LHC).
It is worth noting that Justice Ayesha A. Malik will serve as a Supreme Court justice until March 2031. She is the fourth most senior member of the Lahore High Court.
