Kohli, the ‘fantastic cricketer,’ will change his fortunes: Du Plessis

Faf du Plessis, the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore, is sure that Virat Kohli will break out of his IPL hitting slump.

Kohli scored a scratchy nine in the defeat to Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday, bringing his IPL record to just 128 runs from nine games this season. Kohli had two golden ducks earlier in the season.

Kohli, who had been promoted to begin the batting, came within inches of failing to score for the third match in a row with a shot that just missed a defender.

The former India skipper remained uneasy and barely lasted 10 balls when a Prasidh Krishna pull shot was pushed on to his helmet for a catch at cover point.

“Great personalities have to find a way to get through circumstances like this,” Du Plessis remarked after his team fell 29 runs short of a modest 145-run target.

“Our plan was to get him into the game right immediately so he wouldn’t sit on the sidelines and overthink things.”
