ISLAMABAD – A district and sessions court in the federal capital denied a prosecutor’s motion seeking the issuing of an arrest warrant for PTI Chairman Imran Khan in the lady judge threatening case.

During the hearing, the PTI chief’s lawyer, Naeem Panjohtha, submitted a plea requesting an exemption from presence on medical grounds. His lawyer said that physicians had not permitted Mr Khan to travel as he recovers from his gunshot wounds.

Prosecutor Rizwan Abbasi contested the exemption request, claiming that the PTI head had produced medical records from his own facility, which treats cancer patients. He said that Imran Khan’s leg was only swollen and that he may come outside the court to indicate his attendance. He asked the court to revoke Imran Khan’s bail and issue an arrest warrant for him.

However, the judge denied his request and continued the case until March 9.

In August, the PTI chairman criticised the police and the judiciary for alleged detention abuse of Shahbaz Gill and declared that his party will pursue legal action against the IGP, the DIG, and additional sessions judge Zeba Chaudhry.

Mr Khan was arrested after his statements under several provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA). The terrorist allegations against him in the case were later dropped by the Islamabad High Court (IHC). It also accepted his apologies in the instance of contempt of court.
