KARACHI — As the country confronts a fifth wave of the fatal virus powered by the omicron strain, the coronavirus positive rate in Sindh’s provincial capital has increased to a record high of 39.39 percent.
In the previous 24 hours, 2424 coronavirus infections have been registered in the port city, according to details.
Pakistan, on the other hand, has recorded 9 deaths from new coronavirus in the previous 24 hours, bringing the total number of positive cases to 1,324,147. On Sunday, the number of people killed in the United States reached 29,012.
In the last 24 hours, 4,027 people tested positive for COVID-19, according to the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC).
Punjab continues to be the province with the highest number of deaths, followed by Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The outbreak has claimed the lives of 13,088 people in Punjab, 7,694 in Sindh, 5,958 in KP, 969 in Islamabad, 749 in Azad Kashmir, 367 in Balochistan, and 187 in the United Kingdom.
Also confirmed were 499,830 coronavirus cases in Sindh, 452,261 in Punjab, 182,199 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 110,963 in Islamabad, and 34,750 in Azad Kashmir. Balochistan has 33,699 people while Gilgit-Baltistan has 10,445 people.
